MeltonStone™ Cast Stone Architectural Products Guide Specification

Part I – General
1.01 Scope
A.
Manufacturer shall supply MeltonStone™ architectural
cast stone as described in the specification.
B.
Setting contractor shall unload, store and set
cast stone, and shall furnish attachment hardware, mortar, mortar color,
caulk, sealers, ledge angles, structural bracing, structural support, loose
anchors and pins for balusters.
1.02 Submittals
A.
Submit for approval samples of the architectural
cast stone to be supplied which are representative of the general range
of color and finish to be furnished.
B.
Submit __________ (part drawings, or shop drawings)
for approval.

2.02 Materials
A.
MeltonStone™ architectural cast stone.
1.
Physical Properties
a.
Compressive strength, ASTM C-1194; 6500 PSI min. for products
28 days or;
b.
Compressive strength, ASTM C-39; 5000 PSI min for products
at 28 days.
c.
Absorption, ASTM C-1195 or ASTM C-642; 6% max. for products
28 days.
d.
Multiply requirements of field cut or core drilled specimens
by 80% to determine minimum compressive strength.
2.03 Color and Finish
A.
Color shall be ___________ (natural limestone
or white standard colors) or custom color as specified.
B.
Custom color to match sample for project of ____________________
(insert description).
C.
Exposed surfaces, unless otherwise specified shall
exhibit a fine grained texture similar to natural stone. No bug holes or
air voids are permitted.
D.
Variation:
1.
Must match color and finish of approved sample
subjected to similar aging and weathering conditions viewed in direct sunlight
at a distance of 10 ft.
2.
ASTM color variation allowed – 2% hue, 6% lightness,
chroma and hue combined.
2.04 Curing and Finishing
A.
Yard cure for 350 degree days prior to shipment.
B.
All surfaces shall be acid-etched to remove cement
film prior to packaging for shipment.
2.05 Related Materials
A.
Anchors – non corrosive, galvanized, brass or
stainless steel type 304.
B.
Mortar – Type N, ASTM C-270.
Part 3 – Execution
3.01 Installation and Tolerances
A.
Comply with Cast Stone Institute Technical Manual
on the world wide web at www.caststone.org.
B.
Set stones 1/8″ or less within plane of adjacent
unit.
C.
Joint Size: stone/brick joints = 3/8″; stone/stone
joints vertical = 1/4″ to 3/8″; stone/stone exposed top = 3/8″.
D.
Joint Material: use a full bed of mortar at all
bed joints.
3.02 Cleaning and Repair
A.
Clean stone by wetting with clear running water
and applying a solution of “Sure Kleen” #600 by ProSoCo, Products,
Inc., or equal. Follow cleaner manufacturers instructions.
B.
Repair obvious chips with touch-up material furnished
by the manufacturer.
